Paul Hawken is an author, environmentalist, entrepreneur and activist who has dedicated his life to environmental sustainability. His most recent work - Project Drawdown: The Most Comprehensive Plan Ever Proposed to Reverse Global Warming - was the inspiration behind our new Print with Purpose, MUJER Print.

Below are six of our favorite Paul Hawken quotes, and a list of discussion questions for your next book club meeting provided by the New York Library Association.

“Girls’ education, it turns out, has a dramatic bearing on global warming. Women with more years of education have fewer, healthier children and actively manage their reproductive health.”

“If cattle were their own nation, they would be the world’s third-largest emitter of greenhouse gases.”

“Real change occurs from the bottom up; it occurs person to person, and it almost always occurs in small groups and locales and then bubbles up and aggregates to larger vectors of change.”

“The science on climate change is an extraordinary problem statement. The headlines that come out about extreme weather, fire, ocean acidification, and so on, all validate that problem statement. But we keep immersing ourselves in the problem rather than accepting it and saying: Got it. Now let’s work on the solutions.”

“I’d rather fail at something important than succeed at something trivial.”

“I doubt very much that the chief executives of any of the Fortune 500 corporations can name five edible plants, five native grasses, or five migratory birds within walking distance of their homes, or name the soil series upon which their house sits. And I would contend that if you don’t know where you are, you are in fact nowhere at all.”
